Before we start, it should be said that we have made small changes in our ranking methodology, which previously had a minimum population quota requirement. As a result, smaller countries that had not been included are now at the podium. Portugal and Chile now emerge in prominent positions.
For the fifth year in a row, the United Kingdom has kept its number one spot for vegan connections. This year, however, Portugal has taken over the Netherlands as runner-up, followed by the Dutch country in third place. Countries with generally smaller populations but big vegan communities, like Austria, Sweden and the newcomer Chile, follow behind.
In terms of absolute numbers, however, the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Germany continue to exert their significant influence due to their large population! So it’s not a coincidence that these are the countries where most of our VegMatches testimonials happen. The ample pool of individuals and diversity within these countries increases the likelihood of meaningful connections.
The list further highlights other countries with significant vegan communities as of 2024. Among these nations are Spain, Australia, Canada and France. I wonder why Germany is no 8 in your top. There are so many more vegans in the US and other countries, where veganism is more than tolerated. There is NO vegan around the place I live, over a very large area. Moreover, I am almost always considered ‘exaggerated’ because I don’t want to wear leather or wool. Germany’s reputation as a vegan-friendly country is just an artificial construct. I was kicked out of a job, have no friends and the like. No, Germany does not deserve the 8th place at all.
