It’s a well-known fact that veganism and plant-based lifestyles have become more popular in the last few years. This has led to a surge in the availability and diversity of options of plant milk. In this context, Veggly regularly runs surveys to ask vegans about their preferences amongst a variety of subjects. According to a recent survey conducted by Veggly, with responses from over eleven thousand users, these are vegans’ favorite plant milk options:

Oat milk has gained significant popularity in recent years due to its smooth texture and slightly sweet flavor. It is the most popular option worldwide and among users from countries such as the US, the UK, Germany and Canada. It’s a good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals and it’s also more sustainable, since it requires fewer resources like water and land use compared to other plant milk alternatives.

2. Soy Milk – 18.8%

It is rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, especially calcium and vitamin D, which is why it is recommended in order to maintain bone health. Also, people often associate soy milk with health benefits, since it is low in cholesterol and can help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Known for its tropical flavor and richness in minerals, coconut milk is a great source of energy. It offers a subtle hint of coconut, which enhances a lot of recipes. As expected, this option ranked second amongst Brazilian vegans, since it has been a staple ingredient in traditional Brazilian dishes for centuries. When using coconut milk, it’s advisable to choose unsweetened and organic varieties to avoid added sugars.

5. Blend/Mix – 4.8%

This type of plant-based milk comes from a combination of ingredients, such as the ones that we’ve previously mentioned. This type of blended milk provides a diverse nutrient profile, since it combines the best parts of various plant sources.

6. Rice Milk – 4.5%

Rice milk is a mix of milled rice grains and water. Its texture is naturally thinner when compared to other more creamy plant-based milk types. It is also becoming a more easily accessible option to find in grocery stores around the world.

7. Hazelnut Milk – 3.6%

By blending hazelnuts and water, we create hazelnut milk. They are a good source of healthy fats, fiber, vitamin E, and minerals such as calcium and magnesium. However, it’s important to note that hazelnut milk may not be suitable for individuals with nut allergies. For those who prefer and can consume this option, you can use it in different recipes like pancakes, smoothies, cereals or added to coffee.

8. Cashew Milk – 3.5%

Last but not least, we have cashew milk, which is created by blending soaked cashews with water. This option is especially popular in Brazil, since cashew trees are native to the country, making it one of the largest producers of cashew nuts globally. The availability of commercial cashew milk has greatly increased in recent years, and it is also a healthy option for vegans, offering a good amount of healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
